Event Description

The Hope for America Coalition and the Coalition of Citizen Advocacy Groups (CCAG), in association with a consortium of other organizations, will be hosting a Candidate Debate and Forum for the Kansas 3rd Congressional District seat in the US House of Representatives.

The debate will be held on Saturday, March 20 from 1:00-4:00pm in the Blue Valley Northwest High School PAC Auditorium, 13260 Switzer Road in Overland Park. The first half of the debate will consist of a single question asked of each one of the candidates, with each of the other candidates having an opportunity for rebuttals. After a ten minute break, all of the candidates will be asked questions submitted by YOU, the attendees.

If you had only one question to ask of the candidates, what would it be? Feel free to submit it to questions@hfapac.org; if your question is one of the top 8 as determined by our panel, you will be invited to ask your question from the floor of the auditorium on the afternoon of the debate. The deadline for submission of debate questions is Monday, March 15.

All of the following current declared candidates have now confirmed their attendance (in alphabetical order):

Daniel Gilyeat - Republican Party
Nick Jordan - Republican Party
Patricia Lightner - Republican Party
Craig McPherson - Republican Party
John Rysavy - Republican Party
Thomas Scherer - Republican Party
Jasmin Talbert - Libertarian Party
Kevin Yoder - Republican Party

In addition, if a Democratic Party candidate or any other candidate declares their candidacy at least one week before the Forum, we will extend an invitation to them as well.

This will be the most comprehensive gathering of candidates in one place to date, so we expect a large turnout.

If you wish to attend, please send an RSVP to rsvp@hfapac.org, or you can RSVP at our Facebook event page. Space is limited, and seats will be reserved on a first-come, first-served basis.

We look forward to seeing all of you on the 20th of March in Overland Park!

Here's the bio/sketch document that Dave gave me via E-mail last week when he declared his candidacy:

(BTW, I misspoke earlier; he claimed that he had posted his blogs here at Political Chips.)

---------------------------
Dave King

Forty-nine year professional in telecommunications (Southwestern Bell, Verisign, Sprint).

Three years in the U.S. Army (1964 to 1967).

I’m running for the U.S. House because the liberals/progressives in charge have taken the nation from its small government, capitalist founding and made it a near-socialist state. The current candidates must define what they stand for and what they’ll do in office, and that specificity is what I find lacking, and it’s the specificity I’ll provide with my candidacy.

I would repeal, rescind and make null and void Obamacare, Cap and Trade, stimulus money and other related liberal legislation. I would seek to rescind the enabling legislation for the EPA (see my BLOG entitled” The EPA Declares War on America”, along with other posted BLOGS, on the Political Chips web site www.politicalchips.org). Short of the disenabling effort I would seek to remove funding for the EPA.

I would call the Czars before the House in order to determine what they’ve done, and if we find efforts that injure America, I would seek to punish the individual czar to the full extent of the law. I would also be in favor of defunding the entire staff of Czars and remove these people from the American scene.

We must restore low taxes, small government, reliance on states-rights and the Constitution as the path we will follow in order to restore our nation to prosperity and assure a bright future for our children and grand children.

Actually, Cynthia, I don't know a ton about Dave myself. I know that Amanda Grosserode knows him, and that they had had discussions in the past, but what I do know about him was gleaned from a one-on-one conversation I had with him last Friday. He also gave me a folder of statements that he made on blogs in the past. I would be willing to share these with the group here if that would be helpful.

Dave King is a person who's been active on the ResistNet boards and is a Tea Party adherent. He decided to file last week because he hadn't found a candidate to support and felt that nobody was talking about the root cause of the issues facing the country. Since he filed and declared his candidacy, we felt duty bound to extend an invitation to him.

Yesterday, we had a candidate withdraw from the event. Thomas Scherer will not be joining us on the 20th, due to travel conflicts (he has an unavoidable commitment in Florida). So, now there will be 7 candidates attending the debate at Blue Valley Northwest High School.

Attending (15)

Might attend (3)

Thank you for your support!
