It looks like major reform of school funding is back on the table when the 2012 Kansas Legislature convenes in January. The last time this huge task was undertaken was 1992. Such reform brings with it the possibility that every public school student in Kansas could be affected. It is one of the most challenging tasks lawmakers can tackle and its implications are immense because the quality of public education is at stake. What is driving the need for reform and what are the pros and cons?
To answer those questions and look at the current landscape of school funding, we are sponsoring an Open Forum between two experts on Kansas school finance: Mark Tallman, Executive Director of the Kansas Association of School Boards, and Dave Trabert of the Kansas Policy Institute. Although they present differing points of view on the subject, their well-rounded, expert perspectives will be a valuable “education” for anyone who cares about their child’s education future. The Chairman will moderate a Q&A from the audience.
Several of our local State Representatives and other elected officials, as well as announced candidates for the 2012 Elections will be in attendance for you to talk with.
Make plans to be here with us. Our Town Hall meetings are open to all, so bring your friends and neighbors along. Neglecting the issues will not make them go away.
