This week Young Americans for Liberty will be displaying our nations current debt in an event dubbed Visualize the Debt. Kansas will be no exception. On March 27th Kansas State University will kick off the events with a special 3 day showing of the display. The event will conclude with Visualize the Debt coming to Kansas University for one day only on March 31st. I think all who come to see it will be impressed with the 50 foot long representation of the ballooning debt. Let's help raise awareness of our countries budgetary and fiscal debacle and begin to work towards dramatic reductions in federal spending. As of today each individual citizen has been put on the hook for nearly $46,000. This is on top of over $113 trillion in unfunded liabilities, to include medicare/medicaid, prescription drug program, and social security which would raise each individuals share to well over $1 million. This speeding train doesn't end with Washington. We in Kansas have our own troubles with a debt burden of $8,000 for each and every one of us.
Students and our young people will be faced with solving this problem as other generations continue to fail to rise to the occasion as passage of recent legislation "cut spending" has shown. We are taking the message to our future leaders and taxpayers and asking them to stand for drastic cuts in spending and reexamining our domestic and foreign policy that has compounded these problems. I want to invite you all to this important event! Let's challenge the status quo on this issue and layout a case for our communities as to why this needs to be done, not next year but right now.
