1895 8th GRADE EXAM a must read from Salina Ks. 1895

I sent this to Glenn yesterday and he used a similar example in his Broke presentation tonight. It really shows how far our educational system has regressed. Take this actual test given to 8th graders in 1895 and pass it on to your more literate friends.

I guess the way to check this out for sure is to contact the Smokey Valley Genealogical Society and Library in Salina or the Salina Journal. I do not put any trust in Snopes as it is owned and operated by leftists and they have an agenda to protect their interests.

Fact or folklore, it is fairly representative of what has happened to education in our country over the last century - and it is not an accident, but rather the deliberate dumbing down of our citizenry. Download the pdf version of the book at this link - it is a collection of documents and legislation which explain what they are doing, and why. You will not be pleased.

I received Leslie's e-mail this afternoon on 1895 and sent it to 6 friends. Bob, in St. Joseph, e-mailed me back to say that he checked with snopes (he always does) and that it is not a fact but merely one of the many pieces of folklore (or fabrication?) that seem to float around. I tried to e-mail Leslie back but I know too little about computers to even but considered dangerous so I did not find a way top respond to her e-mail. You may want to check on this before it is used in too many more talks. I hope this is helpful

My mother still has her 1st grade reader from around 1930, and I was astonished at the complexity of the text, particularly when compared with current readers.

Oh good grief, I'm sunk.

My grandma who passed away at 99 years old, would recall the names of major rivers of the world in alphabetical order, when she had trouble sleeping!

Thank you for your support!
