CHICK FIL-A SUPPORTERS, COULD THEY BE TEA PARTY EVANGELICALS!
On August 1, 2012, thousands of Americans rallied around the country at Chick Fil-A restaurants in support of our First Amendment right to think and speak, and Dan Cathy's commitment to honor the Biblical principle of one man plus one woman equals marriage. Thousands of Americans showed up to defend traditional Christian marriage values, and our Constitutional right to speak. This wasn't orchestrated by any conservative group or groups, but, by one man, Mike Huckabee, who passed along a suggestion to America, to show up and support a man who honors the traditional concept of marriage. Does any of this ring a bell, yet? Could these Chick Fil-A supporters just be, that group of Americans who cling to their Bibles and guns? Or, worse yet, could they be that lost tribe of evangelicals, who were foundational to the formation of the original Tea Party Movement, just three years ago? Well, where have they been?
The truth is, they've been here all along, patiently waiting, some not so patient, for the opportunity to spontaneously ignite, and rally once again, around our Constitutional core values. We know what to do when the chips are down, and don't need any conservative groups to hijack our God, and enthusiasm, water it down, homogenize it into an unidentifiable entity without a soul. The Liberty of the American spirit can't be bought, sold, or modeled into the image of a “golden calf,” as certain Tea Party groups have attempted to do.
In the Fall, 2009, I was hired by The American Liberty Alliance to produce a documentary on the American Liberty Tour, from Sacramento to Ft. lauderdale, Florida. As we crossed the country in the company of representatives from Redstate.com and American Majority, I experienced rallies and workshops where Christian voices and families stood with their signs in the hot sun, spoke clearly to the passions of our Judeo-Christian heritage. They made up the majority of the crowds who came to be known as The Tea Party Movement. They haven't gone away, but, they were hijacked by those who don't know or care about God!
For the last couple years, these evangelicals have gone unrepresented in the Tea Party Movement, despite the clatter and busywork of the Tea Party Patriots and the Tea Party Express, who have left the God of our Founding Fathers, out of the Tea Party Movement equation, and their specific vision statements. Instead, replacing it with the “golden calf” of working to repair our economy and small government, WITHOUT, repairing the attacks on our Christianity, first! You see, it's not what they do that's destructive, it's what they don't do, the main issue left unattended to. These secular-led conservative groups just don't get it! This country, any country, cannot be repaired to health and vigor, without putting God first.
On the day of the Chick Fil-A nationwide rallies, I did not receive any emails from Tea Party Patriots. On the contrary, Rick Santorum's Patriot Voices, spoke out against Rahm Emanuel's announcement to keep Chick Fil-A out of Chicago. Santorum voiced support for Gov. Mike Huckabee and the pro-Chick Fil-A rallies. Today, the day after the rallies, I received the regular run-of-the-mill email from Tea Party Patriots, only talking about economic matters, without any mention of the rallies or the liberal attacks on Dan Cathy of Chick Fil-A. In seeking leadership, in the spirit of our Founding Fathers, I can't give money to an organization who chooses to place God at the bottom of the corporate ladder.
When our country's survival as a sovereign nation is at stake, there is no excuse good enough for relegating the social issues to the back seat, while God is nestled away out of sight in mothballs, locked in the trunk. The American Christians are exploding with dynamic, pent up energy, waiting for a Moses to lead them, to retrieve and restore their "promised land” from the exploiters, both Liberal and Conservative abusers of power within our struggling republic!
How many excuses can we come up with to honor God last? Entrust power to those who will honor God First!
God Bless & Lead us,
Howard Frank Galloway
