"One of the most direful effects of taking from the parents and transferring to the general public the power to control the child’s education, is the weakening, not to say the entire destruction, of that filial love, respect, honor, and obedience which the child owes to its father and mother, and along with that, the sapping of the very foundations of the family government; and, finally, the ruin of society itself."
School choice is an issue that cannot be ignored. Our children's education and their futures must be given back to their parents.
The Federal Government has no business dictating standards, especially sub-standard expectations for our children. We cannot let our state hand over our children for some grant money! Race to the Top is a Trojan Horse sabotaging the 10th Amendment and parental rights!

Comment by Jason Powers on January 31, 2013 at 10:55am The Common Core (CC) propaganda video I was subjected to in our local elementary school meeting this week was appalling. The video started out by assuming parents in the audience should desire to have their kids receive the same educational standards of kids in Shanghai.
Yeah, let that one sink in for a minute...
For those following along, we're not talking about the Shanghai in Connecticut.
From what I can tell, this new set of standards is designed to slow down the educational progress of the entire student body to allow other kids to catch up. It does not appear designed to make our kids brighter nor does it appear intent to produce competition amongst schools/cities/states. Quite the contrary...IMHO...it appears designed to dumb down the entire public system and diminish, or eventually eliminate, competition.
I have 3 school aged children. 2 of them will benefit from the ability to "catch up" with their peers. One will be completely bored. I see both sides of this battle, but I choose to continue to challenge my kids. The CC standards very well may force me to use the private system to challenge them from now on.
I've had a few days to replay the video in my head, which anyone who knows me knows how necessary that is for my comprehension. Anyhow, one key theme in the video that they presented to parents was "it shouldn't matter where you live, how much you make or what color your skin is" when it comes to getting an education.
Who the hell is saying that any of that matters today?
Today, without CC, It doesn't matter where you live. There are some outstanding teachers in the inner cities, and likewise there are some terrible teachers licensed to teach in some very prominent neighborhoods.
Today, without CC, it doesn't matter how much money you make. There are homeschooling parents who live on a single income, but take the time to educate their children because they recognize the value of a good education, not to mention the fact that it strengthens the parent/child bond.
Today, without CC, it doesn't matter your race. I seriously refuse to touch this one with a ten-foot pole...
The entire CC hoax is another battle in the liberal strategy to use class warfare to advance the socialist agenda.
