I was at the commencement ceremony at the University of Missouri-Columbia, College of Arts and Sciences to proudly watch my child walk across the stage on May 14th. I was surprised that the commencement speaker was no other than Governor Nixon. My surprise was short lived when I discovered he was probably there because his son was also graduating. I don't really have a problem with that or that we had to listen to him talk about how great his son was for about five minutes. However, I did have a problem with his address from that point on. Never once did he espouse the greatness of this nation of our. I realize saying "American Exceptionalism" is forbidden by the left but come on. Instead he forced fed globalism, community responsibility, compromise and the usual drivel on the crowd. He practically spit out the word "American" when he used it...once. He was proud of MIZZOU having a high percentage of foreign students but never once spoke to the American students directly. Aren't you proud of your county Governor? Our country is great because of the free market, the independent entrepreneurial spirit and creators of the best products in the world. Why not remind all those young graduating "Americans" of that point and encourage them to be producers instead of someone who only consumes, compromises or cajoles.
