From Mary Pilcher-Cook:
I am writing you with an urgent message – on Friday, Feb. 3, the Kansas Health Care Freedom Amendment will be debated and receive a vote by Senate Judiciary Committee members!
As you might remember, this Amendment to the Kansas Constitution was adopted by the Kansas House last year by over two-thirds vote – an overwhelming majority (93 votes in favor). With oral arguments set to be made before the United States Supreme Court in late March, it is important the Senate Judiciary Committee passes this legislation to the floor as quickly as possible, so it can be adopted by the full Senate with a 2/3 majority vote. Once passed, the measure would not need to be signed by the governor, but would go straight to November’s ballot for a vote from Kansas citizens.
While Kansans would not get to vote for the Constitutional Amendment before November, passage by the Legislature would still provide another tool in the toolbox for the Kansas Attorney General to use in arguments before the U.S. Supreme Court to protect our health care freedom. Next Friday's vote in committee is a critical step in that process. I hope you can make plans to attend the hearing on Friday -- here are the details:

Comment by Sue Boldra on February 2, 2012 at 10:30am We must make our voices heard. Our participatory type of government demands that we become and stay involved.

Comment by Leah Herron on February 2, 2012 at 9:55am In the hearings I have attended, only the legislators on the committee have been there.
Comment by Bob Bowser on February 2, 2012 at 9:10am I had planned on attending but with the weather coming this way, it might be prudent if SOMEONE could call Mary and find out for sure if any of the Senators have confirmed they will be there for the hearing. Much like Jerry Moran, they seem to disappear especially on Fridays when there is a controversial vote.
