I can remember through the many years (even before "The Great Re-distributor") where those on welfare might be (nicely) asked to help with needed community projects...like painting the city mailboxes, cleaning up parks....whatever. But, oh no. Demeaning. Too difficult. Who would take care of the children? Transportation problems. Clothing not adequate. So many excuses why they could not even be ASKED to help their community when they were receiving money from their community......
The wear and tear on the boats, tackle and motors that are being used to provide the free fish take time to maintain and somone has to do that daily. The crews become weary of the daily grind and the captains have to keep them motivated one way or another. What happens when the captain tells the crew that they have to provide more free fish to the free loaders and they are going to come out of the crew's allotment of fish? Eventually someone will tell the free loaders to fish or cut bait.
Comment by Yvonne Starks on October 5, 2012 at 10:25pm What makes it even worse is that too many of those receiving those fish every single day of their lives end up wanting those who GIVE them the fish "to eat worms".....have no appreciation, no respect, no understanding of what it did take to ready the boats, dig for those worms, get up early and come home late....Instead, they begin to dislike--to hate--them because they envy them. I contend it's not envy just for their material gains, but also because it is within the human soul to want to be respected and be 'worthy'...and they know they're not....and project that onto those who are giving them the excuse not to be....
Just like the foreign nations who now despise us after all we've given in blood, sweat, treasure, and tears....one loses respect for those who do not allow them to EARN their own self respect. It may seem to be convoluted, but it sure seems to be a human nature trait....
Can it change now? In time?
