The left calls us names and they accuse us of all manner of dastardly deeds like conducting a war on women or of empowering the rich at the expense of the poor. They accuse us of being racists because we abhor ILLEGAL immigration. They accuse us of being against religious freedom because we voice concerns about Muslim terrorism when we point at the teachings of the Koran and the terrorist acts that Muslims commit worldwide on a daily basis in the name of their god, their "religion" and the Koran. They accuse us of being a corrupt and racist society because we believe that George Zimmerman might have killed Trayvon Martin in self defense. They accuse us of a war on poor people because we think Obamacare is un-Constitutional. I can take the name calling. I'm used to it. When the left begins calling me names I wear it as a badge of honor because I know that I have hit my mark - that I have scored a point.
No, the left isn't silencing us. We are silencing ourselves with our apathy. The level of participation here on "Chips" and other Conservative websites began to decline after we elected Scott Brown to the U.S. Senate and really plummeted after our gains in 2010. Too many who had formerly been active decided that we had won and went back to sleep.
Today I attended the "Conservatives In Action" event at Theis Park in Kansas City. Those of you who attended the rally there on 9/5/2009 will recall that we had a huge crowd in attendance. Today's crowd was a small shadow of the crowd 3 short years ago. How can we prevail if we don't show up? Occupy Wall Street turned out people coast to coast and they stayed (illegally) but they stayed for months in their encampments. They held rallies and they changed the narrative in the public square. We can't compete with that unless we can turn people out and remain engaged. As one speaker at today's event observed; we can sacrifice to make the changes now or we can leave our children and grandchildren with the results of of our failure to make the necessary sacrifices today.
