Tremendous numbers of US Citizens have lost faith in the workings and actions of both U S Houses. You hear someone almost every day decry the actions or inaction of their elected representatives. This is heard in polls, coffee shops, stores, church, gyms and around kitchen tables.
The overriding theme is that, “They go to Washington and forget who sent them”! It appears that when our Senators and Representatives go to Washington, they become part of an elite club. This club seems to loose touch with the issues and electorate who put them there. They become insulated from the “State”, and the problems their state is wrestling with. They are caught up in deal making, their next campaign, lobbing and worst of all POWER.
When it comes time to discuss budget it is amazing how they can wheel, deal and talk about fiscal responsibility, spend trillions! Then slip in a pay raise for themselves....
I think the answer to this is for the people of each state, to have a say as to when they get a raise, and how much. This could be done if each individual state had to pay their wages, out of their state budget. Then, the individual states legislature would have to vote on their pay raise.
I am sure then their listening to the electorate, might just be a little more attentive. Just remember both houses of the state government would have to vote on a pay bill to be signed into law by their Governor. If this got out of hand, their terms, could be limited by the voters in the next election.

As you can imagine, it has not gone over well and no doubt will die a painful death.
Yoder has also REDUCED his operating expense, returning money to the treasury unspent. He also does NOT take advantage of the Cadillac-health care plan offered to the members of Congress.
You're absolutely right.....SOMETHING must be done about the over-all elitist mentality they have foisted upon all of us instead of considering their jobs as SERVICE. As Clint Eastwood said, "WE OWN THE COUNTRY" and "THEY WORK FOR US".......
"US" is gonna have to change things.....but will we?
