Kansas Business Coaltion Opposes and Lobbies Against State Immigration Laws

Here it is!  The organizations that are promoting businesses to employ illegal immigrants and are fighting against e-verify (simple system that is used by businesses to detect invalid S.S.#'s) and immigration bills in Kansas.

Leaders:  Allie Devine, Ks. Livestock Assoc., 785-273-5115; Dina Cox, Ks. Society of Human Resource Management, 785-383-7302; Bob Totten, Ks. Contractors Assoc., 785-266-4152; Mike Taylor, Unified Govt.- Wyandotte County, Kansas City, Kansas, 913-573-5565

Members:  Assoc. Builders and Contractors - Heart of America Chapter; Bernie Koch- Ks. Economic Progress Council; Greater Topeka Chamber of Commerce; Ks. Agribusiness Retailers Assoc.; Ks. Building Industry Assoc; Ks. Contractors Assoc.; Ks. Cooperative Council; Ks. Dairy Assoc.; Ks. Economic Development Alliance; Ks. Farm Bureau; Ks. Grain and Feed Assoc., Ks. Livestock Assoc.; Ks. Look familiar?  Contact the Coalition leaders and members.  Tell them to stop lobbying against immigration laws for Kansas.  This coalitions argument will be that the Ks. immigration bills will cost Kansas more money during hard economic times.   Your argument is:  Our government is increasing the citizens taxes to compensate for funding immigrants.  The coalition will reply with an argument that immigrants pay taxes; your argument is that illegal immigrants when hired take maximum deductions and then do not file at year end.  Taxpayers are spending around $500 million per year in benefits for immigrates, including illegal aliens and we are losing jobs to them.   Businesses that hire immigrants do not provide benefits or enough pay for a person to live on; therefore, the welfare system is funding these low pay (slave labor) immigrants with taxpayer dollars instead of businesses.  I am a business owner and feel a simple system as e-verify (within the immigration bills) will detect an invalid S.S. # and the S.S. Admin. will notify the business. The business can request proper identification from the employee or refuse employment for that person.  Many States are starting to enforce e-verify in their businesses.   Providing jobs and benefits to illegals in Kansas only promotes migration to our State.  It has to stop!  Call your legislators and tell them to stop catering to the special interest groups such as Kansas Business Coalition.  Let your voice be heard!

FOR IIVJMEDIATE RELEASE - March 2, 2011
KANSAS BUSINESS COALITION OPPOSES STATE IMMIGRATION LAWS
(TOPEKA) — The wave of frustration with Congiess’ inaction in addressing immigration issues has reached Kansas. Several bills have been or will beintroduced proposing significant changes to Kansas law to address failed federal immigration policy through increased regulations on employers and increased pressure on local law enforcement. The Kansas Business Coalition does not support such proposals because they will adversely impact the state’s economy.
“These proposals are unworkable and place additional regulatory burdens on businesses and local units of government,” said Dma Cox with the Kansas Society of Human Resource Management and a coalition spokesperson. “The proposals do nothing to address the real issues of immigration.”
Proposals that mandate the use of E-verify or require local law enforcement officials to enforce federal immigration policy could cost cities and counties millions of dollars.
“These types of proposals are unfunded mandates by the state that ultimately will land on property taxpayers. Cities and counties have no funds to cany out new mandates. The Unified Government of Wyandotte County opposes this type of legislation,” said Mike Taylor, Public Relations Director, Unified Government of Wyandotte County.
The coalition is urging the state to direct the Kansas congressional delegation to take a leading role in resolving immigration issues at the federal level. True reform from Washington, DC is needed now.
“Taxpayers already pay for the Department of Homeland Security-how much more government must we fund?” said Bob Totten, Kansas Contractors Association. “No one condones employing undocumented workers. Businesses, especially small businesses do not have the personnel to devote to yet another mandate that will not fix the real problems with the nation’s immigration system.”
According to the coalition, it makes no sense for the legislature to entertain proposals that grow government, cost business and place additional burdens on communities during already tough economic times.
