Concerning the inappropriate sculpture at the Arboretum (see previous post):
Because the City of Overland Park denied me and the petition supporters the right to present the petition before the City Council and has refused to take action, we are taking it to the next level. The American Family Association of KS-MO is now involved and will be calling for a grand jury investigation. We believe that as long as this sculpture is in a family-friendly place like the Arboretum, it is promoting obscenity to minors. We are going to need approximately 3,000-4,000 handwritten signatures from Johnson County residents to move this forward. Once the signatures are verified, this case will move forward and a grand jury will hear the case. The grand jury petition will begin very soon. Once we are ready for handwritten signatures, we will send it out to the masses. The fight continues; we will not stop until this sculpture is removed!

Comment by Joanne Hughes on May 31, 2012 at 1:28pm The signature forms will be ready early next week...I will let you know as soon as they are ready to roll. Per the meeting minutes on Sept. 12, 2011, all the councilmembers were present, though Councilmember David White arrived 20 minutes after the meeting started (so he may or may not have been there during this particular item). Here are the meeting minutes: http://apps.opkansas.org/City-Government/Agendas-and-Minutes/City-C... And here is the link to the other material available: http://apps.opkansas.org/City-Government/Agendas-and-Minutes/#Sep2011
AFA also mentioned that there were relating documents from the Community Development Committee Meetings on July 6 and September 7, 2011.
Phillip Cosby of AFA and I have a meeting scheduled with Mayor Gerlach early next week. I am going to ask to be allowed to present the petition to the Council (along with the supporters). I will let you know how it goes.
Comment by Yvonne Starks on May 31, 2012 at 11:22am Joanne.....I pretty well surmised this would be the outcome....remember, "Go away".....?
But, good for you, you're not just doing that.....
I'd be curious to your follow up on what happened with Mayor Gerlach....am assuming that he simply is included (hiding behind?) with the City denying you the right....
However, do think you need to finish your prior story on him here, though.....this is a vetting and venting opportunity to let the people who come in here to Chips to know their 'leaders'......and, then, hopefully, pass it on to those in their Overland Park communities....
That is awesome JoAnne! You are a perfect example of how one person can make a huge difference! Let us know when you are ready for signatures and we will distribute!
Comment by Yvonne Starks on May 31, 2012 at 11:18am So, where do you have the form(s) for the Johnson County signatures to be signed?
Can we put "Weirdo" in front of or behind our signed names to validate Dana Wright on KMBZ? ha.
