I sent this to the Topeka Capital Journal as a Letter to the Editor. They refused to publish it because it was too long. I shortened it by 150 words, let's see if they will publish it now.

This Decadent World
Why is our world morally decaying at such a rapid pace? You’ve heard “we are what we eat”, but I believe “our soul is born from what we are fed”. So therein is our problem and also the answer.
Great changes have been introduced into our culture since the founding of Jamestown in 1607, but recently our country has moved from a family, farm oriented, and religious culture to an educated suburbia, dominated by a progressive society with decadent moral values. We are now being taught that we must become “tolerant” of homosexuality, prostitution, abortions, and porn in our music, TV, and theaters. They want God, Bible and Christian beliefs removed from all of our “public life”. It now is very difficult to create and maintain good marriages (one man and one woman) and build strong families which are necessary and VERY powerful for a stable society.
At one time being part of a family was sitting together to eat supper and then gathering in the living room to watch the TV program, Lawrence Welk or Ozzie and Harriet. Mom would be singing in the kitchen or quietly reading her Bible and occasionally she would quote some scripture to us. We would listen and digest these, determining their relevance in our everyday lives. We went to church on Sundays. These became the morsels from which our souls were fed and how our characters were influenced.
There is a bright hope for tomorrow, but that hope lies only with our faith in God. We CAN overcome the decadence. We CAN bring back the simple life filled with love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control, but we need commitment to pray daily for our leaders, nation, and families that they will become in tune with God’s Word and Wisdom as a tuning fork and a guitar string with no waver in tone between the two. My pastor preached, “Commitment always comes before deliverance”.
God says: “If my people, which are called by My name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land”. From His Holy Living Word, this was not only for Israel, but also for us. Can the solution be any clearer?

Thanks Sally! I possibly did grow up during the same time. There were, I am sure, many families that shared the same values and lifestyle of that time (the exact point I was making). We have moved from that time into another world. Dr. Rhodes may be correct, but I am sure God will forgive my literary license. :) Also, many verses, especially in the Old Testament and written for that time, are used and especially NEEDED today.
