Are you better off today than you were just 4 years ago? How about 8 years ago? Most of you reading this blog are most likely shaking your head up & down and mouthing the word(s) “no” or “hell no”. Please note that I did not ask you about your personal finances although that is was you assumed I meant.
Now, ask yourself this: In 2004, when you were prepared to vote for George Bush versus John Kerry, did you know anything about the 56 signors to the Declaration of Independence? Did you know anything about the 10th Amendment? Did you know anything about the Fair Tax? Did you know anything about the 1st Amendment or 2nd Amendment? Did you know anything about Glenn Beck?
In 2008, times were different. The economy was on the verge of collapse subsequent to many of the actions or non-actions of the 2006 Congress led by Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid. On this day, you were headed out the door to cast your vote for John McCain and hoping that millions of Americans would not show up to vote for Barack Obama. On this day, did you know anything about the Tea Party? Did you know most of your elected officials at the local level by name? Did you know anything about healthcare legislation?
Today, you will set out to vote for Mitt Romney. Today, you will cast votes for people you know, people you have met, and people whose campaigns you have worked for whereas in years past you may have only voted for names and party designations. Today, you will pray to God that your conservative candidates prevail in one of the most important elections of our lifetimes. Today, many of them will win, some of them will lose.
On Wednesday, no matter what happens today, I want you to look directly in the mirror and ask yourself whether or not you are better off today than you were 4 years ago as it pertains to your love of country, your understanding of history, and your desire to keep pressing forward with everything you have left in the tank for the rest of your God given time left on this earth.
On Thursday, please take a deep breath, relax, and save the date for November 4th, 2014, the next most important election of our lifetimes! Cheers!
