If you're not already aware, one of our Chippers is a Wounded Warrior and has also begun his own organization to help severely wounded military. Many of us here on Political Chips have been involved with Marine Daniel Gilyeat and his Operation Payback. Daniel is a member here, as well as several other veterans, most involved in his cause and other similar. Timity Kemper is a Marine, Chipper, and a major player in Dan's Operation Payback organization. The website is www.operationpayback.org ...you probably would like to check it out and contact either one of them....
I think Dan was recently at Walter Reed hospital to donate and cheer on an especially wounded veteran. Dan lost a leg in an explosion in Iraq, his second mission there. He began walking almost immediately and was instrumental in helping others, also critically injured, emotionally and physically. A nurse was so impressed with him that she turned his name into ABC's "Extreme Home Makeover" and the Gilyeat family later benefited with their building him a brand new home here in Kansas City, Kansas---so you may already be familiar with his name and story. :)
Comment by Luana Schneider on May 11, 2011 at 8:15am Tempered Steel is a 501(c)3 Public Charity that is educating the public on the stories behind the scars and wounds of war by uniting Wounded Warriors with the public through dialogue. To accomplish their goals, Tempered Steel sends its severely wounded military members from the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars to speak to schools, community groups and corporations about their very personal stories of injury and recovery.
Tempered Steel’s Wounded Warriors break down barriers while revealing they are still caring human beings with feelings, wants, desires and needs. Their circumstances and resulting wounds changed their appearances and physical abilities, but a beauty lies beneath that is brought through by their perseverance to survive and a self-acceptance of their injuries.
